Sohail Shaheen nominated as representative of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan for United Nations

NEW YORK, (MANEND NEWS): An important member of the Taliban negotiation team
in Doha, Muhammad Sohail Shaheen has been nominated as representative of the Islamic
Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) for the United Nations. Taliban has demanded to allow

delivering speech to its representative during the 76 th session of the United Nations
General Assembly.
According to Arab media, Afghan Foreign Minister Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi while
writing a letter to the United Nations Secretary General António Guterres has demanded
delivering speech during the UN General Assembly session and has nominated Sohail
Shaheen as his representative. The Afghan foreign minister has requested the UN
Secretary General to allow speech to Taliban representative during the UN General
Assembly session.
According to Arab media the spokesperson of the UN Secretary General has confirmed
receiving the letter written by Afghan Foreign Minister. According to the spokesperson
the application has been sent to the nine member committee including United States,
China and Russia. According to the spokesperson the meeting of the committee is not
possible prior to next Monday so it is feared that the Taliban Foreign Minister Maulvi
Ameer Muttaqi could not address the United Nations.
According to Arab media accepting Taliban representative by United Nations will an
important step. It is worth mentioning here that UN General Assembly meeting will end
on 27 th September.
