MUZAFFARABAD, (MANEND NEWS): Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi of
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) has been elected as the 13th Prime
Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
He secured 33 votes for the slot of Leader of the House in Azad Jammu
and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The joint candidate of the
Opposition, Chaudhry Latif Akbar got 15 votes.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan nominated Abdul
Qayyum Niazi as the new PM AJ&K. Abdul Qayyum Niazi was elected
Member Assembly from LA-18, Abbaspur constituency of Azad Kashmir
Legislative Assembly on PTI ticket.
Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has confirmed in a tweet
that Abdul Qayyum Niazi has been nominated as the Prime Minister of
Azad Kashmir.
It is worth mentioning here that Chaudhary Anwarul Haq was elected
as Speaker of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and
Chaudhary Riaz Gujjar as Deputy Speaker respectively on Tuesday.
In the voting conducted on Tuesday, assembly members of PTI
Chaudhary Anwarul Haq and Chaudhary Riaz Gujjar secured 32 votes
each and got elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Whereas, the
opposition candidate belonging to Pakistan People’s Party for the
position of Speaker Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore and opposition joint
candidate belong to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for the position of
Deputy Speaker Nisaran Abbasi could get 15 votes each.
Earlier, former President and PM of AJK Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob
Khan, former Prime Minister Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan,
Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry and other members took oath of
the membership of AJK Legislative Assembly.
The retiring Speaker of AJK Legislative Assembly Shah Ghulam Qadir
took oath from the newly elected members of the assembly.
The session of AJK legislative assembly was started with recitation of
the Holy Quran and was presided over by Speaker of the Legislative
Assembly Shah Ghulam Qadir.
In the start of the session, the Secretary of the legislative assembly
read the notification of the success of the newly elected members of
the assembly. Shah Ghulam Qadir took oath from the newly elected
candidates. The head of Muslim Conference and former prime minister
Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan and newly elected member from PPP
Javed Iqbal Baddhanvi could not attend the oath-taking ceremony held
on Tuesday.
