LAHORE, (MANEND NEWS): Liaqat Baloch, Deputy Ameer of Jamaat-e-
Islami and former parliamentary leader in the National Assembly, has
said on Friday that after the emotional attitudes of the government
and opposition members in the National Assembly, riots, immorality
and slander, the instant calm is proving that the switch of quarrels and
calm has been switched on and off from somewhere else.
Members of the National Assembly have tarnished the political,
democratic and parliamentary traditions with their attitudes. With
these attitudes, Parliament will be unable to express the sentiments of
the people, JI leader said in a statement issued.
The people are unaware of why and for whom the government and
opposition members decorated this whole game. The fact is that Prime
Minister Imran Khan has turned politics into a game of intensity,
extremism and revenge with intense emotions, lack of control of
language. Hatreds abound, with disastrous consequences. In order to
protect the constitution, democracy and the parliamentary system, the
national leadership must give practical proof of being mature and
conscious.
Liaqat Baloch said the government’s draft for electoral reform is
controversial and its approval by the National Assembly is also
controversial. Electoral reforms with transparent, fair elections and
consensus is essential. The government should withdraw the electoral
reform bill forcibly passed by the National Assembly and pave the way
for electoral reforms through national dialogue and consensus.
He said that The Election Commission of Pakistan is the first forum
where all political parties meet and agree on electoral reforms.
Parliament approves such a draft. Political parties and the state
institutions must redeem the national politics from the scourge of so-
called electables. Breaking the candidates, using the state influence of
the government, changing the minds of the voters in an artificial
environment should be stopped now. Sustainable democracy, a stable
political electoral system is the guarantor of national security, national
development and national unity.
Liaqat Baloch reviewed the political and electoral situation in meetings
with political workers in Arifwala, Bahawalnagar and Lahore. Rao
Muhammad Zafar, Nazir Ahmad Janjua, Waleed Nasir, Abdul Razzaq
Khalil, Rana Maroof, Iftikhar Ahmad, Mazhar Siddiqui were also
present.
