ISLAMABAD (Manand News) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was in a New York detention centre on Sunday when US President Donald Trump ordered a US operation to capture the South American leader and seize control of the country and its vast oil reserves.
The dramatic operation on Saturday morning knocked out power in parts of Caracas and targeted military installations. US special forces detained Maduro and his wife Celia Flores and transported them by helicopter to a US ship off the coast, from where they were flown to the US.
“We will run the country until there is a safe, orderly and just transition of power,” Trump told a press conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
For months, the Trump administration has accused Maduro of involvement in drug trafficking to the US. It has ramped up the pressure with a massive military deployment in the Caribbean and deadly missile strikes on suspected drug-trafficking boats.
