Peshawar (Manend News) Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) Laboratories Complex, Peshawar in collaboration with Sarhad Rural Support Programme organized three (03) months most innovative Skill Development Programme on the topic “TECHNICAL AND EMPLOYABLE SKILL ADVANCE ON MARBLE AND MOSAIC WORK” at Dimension Stones Centre of PCSIR Labs. Complex, Peshawar. The three months training commenced at October-2023 and ended at January-2024.
The impressive closing ceremony was held on Thursday, in which, Course Completion Certificates were distributed among the 25 successful trainees. Eminent Scientists, Engineers from PCSIR Labs. Complex, Peshawar and renowned human resource development experts from SRSP attended the remarkable event. Luminaries of the Certificates distribution ceremony were Director General-PCSIR Labs. Complex, Peshawar, Mr. Jehangir Shah, Chief Executive SRSP Syed Awlad Hussain, Chief Engineer/Head Dimension Stones Centre, PCSIR-Peshawar Engr. Ahmad Ali and Director (P&D)-PCSIR Peshawar Dr. Javed Abbas Bangash, who in their speeches, shed light on the significance of vital skill development training program for youth belonging to newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and declared this capacity building program as a landmark initiative which became materialized through meritorious contributions of PCSIR-Peshawar and SRSP. The prominent speakers were of the firm conviction that this Training Program will equip the trainees with most sophisticated techniques on Marble and Mosaic Works, its value addition and formation of most advanced Marble and Mosaic products, which can be exported by making huge financial dividends. They also stated that this Program will generate employment opportunities for the youth of newly merged impoverished districts by enabling them to earn their livelihoods and start their own business in Marble/Dimension Stones, Mosaic, Soap Stones, and Granite etc.
Director General-PCSIR-Peshawar Jehangir Shah and Chief Engineer/Head Dimension Stones Centre, PCSIR-Peshawar Engr. Ahmad Ali in their speeches also highlighted the objectives of the Dimension Stones Centre by stating that it is to ensure rapid development in the industrial sector of Dimension Stones by producing export quality products through introduction of new advanced level training programs in the emerging trades with modern-age techniques of teaching and state-of-the-art machineries. DG Jehangir Shah highlighted the objectives of Dimension Stones Centre that to produce export quality products from the semi-finished products through fine tuning. He furthered that to establish state-of-the-art export quality model unit in public sector which can be readily replicated by the private sector, through installing/fabricating similar machinery by means of Reverse Engineering. Moreover, to provide trained manpower for coping the problems of lacking of skilled manpower in the private sector.
The officials further stated that Allah has blessed Pakistan with a variety of abundant mineral resources especially Marble and Granite. About 30 varieties are found in the region and newly merged districts. Although Pakistan is fulfilling the local demand of Marble but imports Granite for local use. Granite mining and processing industry is in its infancy and there are some processing units in operation based on imported machinery in the whole of Pakistan which are unable to meet even the local demand. Marbles are used in construction, floor tiles, monuments, sculptures, cemetery stones, paving, benches etc. More than 300 Billion Tons of reserves are estimated in Pakistan in almost every color of Marble including white, grey, pink, green and yellow.
