LAHORE, Sep 12 (Manend News): Jamaat-e-Islami fully supports the
journalist community stance and protest call against the government
proposed Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA), announces JI
Information Secretary Qaisar Sharif.
In a statement issued from Mansoora on Sunday, the JI spokesperson
advised the government to shun its plan to control media. “Why the
government insists to introduce new bill when the journalists unions,
human rights organisations and all opposition parties oppose it?”
Qaiser Sharif said the JI was standing with the media-persons and
believed freedom of press was the basic pillar of a democratic society.
Rejecting the information minister claims regarding so-called benefits
of the proposed authority, Qaiser Sharif said it was the usual rhetoric
of the government which from the day one was making plots to curb
the free speech. Journalist community, he said, was determined to
protect the freedom of press and it was very welcoming sign for the
country.
