
LAHORE, (MANEND NEWS): Former prime minister and Pakistan
People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Makhdoom Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani
along with former governor Punjab and PPP South Punjab President
Makhdoom Syed Ahmed Mahmood met Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz
(PML-N) President and Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly
Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday in accountability court
of Lahore and discussed the upcoming Senate elections and the
recently held NA-75 (Sialkot-IV) by-elections.
The PPP leader called upon the PML-N leader during his appearance in
the Lahore accountability court. Muhammad Hamza Shahbaz Sharif,
former NA speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and PML-N Spokesperson
Marriyum Aurangzeb were also present on the occasion.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had arrested the PML-N
leader last year in a money laundering and assets beyond means case.
He has been on judicial remand.
Gilani, the joint candidate of the anti-government alliance – Pakistan
Democratic Movement (PDM) for the Senate seat from Islamabad,
conveyed messages of former president Asif Ali Zardari and PPP
Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to Shehbaz Sharif and apprised him
on the Senate election strategy.
“The Parliament is the supreme body where we speak for the people.
We respected the Parliament and worked for its supremacy,” the
former premier said while talking to media after meeting Shehbaz.
He added that there are always ups and downs in politics, however,
the past should be forgotten and a way forward should be paved.
“When I was the prime minister, I never allowed a clash with the
opposition,” he said. “We also signed the Charter of Democracy and
we are together again.” He further maintained that the success of PDM
would be the success of democracy.
Yousaf Raza Gillani termed the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM)
success in the by-elections as the victory of democracy. The PPP
leader said, for the supremacy of the parliament, he met Leader of the
opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif.
Yousaf Raza Gillani said also held meetings with Balochistan National
Party-Mengal (BNP-M) Chief Sardar Muahmmad Akhtar Jan Mengal and
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) Chief Fazalur Rehman and decided
to move forward by leaving the past behind.
The former PM said we had made an alliance in the past as well for the
Charter of Democracy, and are together again. Yousaf Raza Gillani also
condemned horse-trading in the Senate polls.
